Ukraine/Poland update: (Giving opportunity)
Dear Friends, things are starting to come together in terms of organisation. Our community who organises the yearly SLOT art festival has kicked into gear and are ready for action. They are already busy placing refugee families with awaiting volunteers. These are people who already have experience working together and getting things done and it is great to see them using already existing networks to help the refugees.
We are not an aid organisation, however, are going to do whatever we can to rise to this historic moment and help refugees any way that we can. We are a small organisation but we hope to make up for what we lack in size by our spirit, personal connection and flexibility.
The idea is that we would not only provide people with housing and food but also connect them to a community. Instead of being sent to a gymnasium somewhere we want to invite refugees into our homes and into our lives. We will do our best to help them find long term housing and provide financial assistance as much as we can. On our minds is also how to connect refugees with ways in which they can give back to the community whether through work or volunteer opportunities.
We know that at some point we will be overwhelmed and the need will be greater than our resources. Still, we want to do what we can to help. We know that this will be a long term situation and want to be here for the long haul.
If you would like to support our effort to organise and direct volunteers and an emerging “matchmaking service” for refugees as well as wrap around care, you may do it here.
For international donors, the only option that will work as of today is PayPal. We are working on other avenues and would welcome suggestions.
Thank you all for your generosity and willingness to help our Ukrainian brothers and sisters.
